HOLY STRAYS (NOT NOT FUN/FR) + CANKUN (NOT NOT FUN/FR) + MANUEL CARVALHO (BCN): 11 de Enero, BARCELONA
Hi all!
Our first show of 2011 will present two more acts of one our favorite labels right now, Not Not Fun.
Holy Strays and Cankun, alongside with Manuel Carvalho, will be presenting their latest material in Miscelanea on the 11th of January. It will be a night full of electronica, beats, and psychedelia, don't miss it!
Three high quality acts for 6 euro, members of Miscelanea pay 5 euro, check out the videos to see if you like it!
HOLY STRAYS (NOT NOT FUN/ FR)
Holy Strays is the recently adopted nom de plume of a young Paris-based producer, who delivers equally massive and intimate beats. His sub bass grooves and frenetic rhythms usually melt with atmospheric patterns, with a sound sometimes aluding to nu-jazz, R&B or even jungle. In a year or so HS remixed Forest Swords and shared the stage with Sun Araw, Prince Rama, Terror Bird, Ela Orleans, High Wolf, Cankun and Cough.
Listen to his Not Not Fun recordings on Spotify:
Holy Strays – Hyperion
Holy Strays – Enlightenment

Soundcloud
CANKUN (NOT NOT FUN/ FR)
French haze aesthete Vincent Caylet has been active on the marginal music frontlines in various capacities for several years at this point but Cankun is a even brighter-lit hideaway of mirages to pass out in. Chiming guitars balance-beam above looping heatwaved keyboards. Escapist, joyous, and psychedelically sunburned in equal measure.
Listen to his Not Not Fun recordings on Spotify:
Cankun – Jaguar Dance
.
Soundcloud
MANUEL CARVALHO (BCN)
Manuel Carvalho makes synthetic psychedelia with noise and drone parts. His music consists of electronic elements that incorporate figures and oriental considerations, a maximalist micro-cosmos crowded by samples of persian rock, space ships, water aliens and synth solos of breeze-waving hair and with face forward to the sky. He will present his recently released EP "Manta" together with new and unedited material.

KWJAZ : BARCELONA
We finally confirmed KWJAZ in Barcelona next October! The gig will be in Miscelanea with the local band Espanya.
KWJAZ is a project from Peter Berends. Until last year he solely released one cassette on his label Brunch Groupe which was such mindblowing material. Turns out that the tape sold out instantly and that it was reissued this September by Not Not Fun on vinyl for a worldwide edition of the music. In less than 10 days, the vinyl was also sold out in places like Boomkat and Picadilly Records!
He'll be releasing a split record with Joe Knight's Rangers (with who he collaborates regularly) and a bunch more stuff later this year.
He is coming for an European tour and you can also catch him in Madrid, at the new Space Cadet nights, and in the outstanding OUT.FEST in Barreiro, Portugal.

NORBERTO LOBO : BARCELONA
We are really glad to announce a gig of two great musicians: Norberto Lobo and Caballo.
It will be on the 25 of September and this time with the collaboration of our friend Gonzo (DNA Club).
It will take place at the Centro Galego de Barcelona (La Rambla, 35-37).
The gig starts at 21:00 and tickets are just 7 euros and 5 euros for the members of CGB.
Norberto Lobo is one of the finest guitarist i've heard in a while.
He has been able to take advantage of several traditions and put them under his own vision, evoking the art of Portuguese guitarrist Carlos Paredes, the echoes of the delicated sambas of Paulinho da Viola or reminding John Fahey or Charley Patton, all accompanied by a sincere appreciation and empathy with all that comes with being a professional musician.
Caballo is the bastard child of the duo Cuchillo and borns as a solo project born of Israel Marco, where he unleashes his dark side and experimental side. Caballo rides solo between krautrock, the most cavernous ambient and noise.
Without underestimating all our gigs, i think this will be one of the best ones so far!

UPDATE: GALA DROP
There are a few updates regarding Gala Drop's show next week!
MAGINA (Not Not Fun) was added to the bill and the show starts 30min earlier, at 21h.

Pedro Magina - Sparkling Bee from apachiwu on Vimeo.
"The Animal Collective fan in me will likely always remember Lisbon as the place Panda Bear picked to record Person Pitch and to live with his wife and child. But now I can addPedro Magina and his music to my list of Lisbon-based associations. Magina's Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five tape is out now on Not Not Fun Records, and though his music is nowhere near the sunburned, tropic-tinged sounds of Person Pitch, it manages to be just as meditative and every bit as excellent. Britt of Not Not Fun was nice enough to send over "Miyagi," and its undulating synthesizers have been transporting me ever since. Fans of the spaced-out sounds of Megazord, Oneohtrix Point Never and Zonotope should enjoy it. Meanwhile, the other songs streaming at Magina's MySpace sound a bit more subdued. Regardless, these are blissfully ambient songs that shimmer and soar even as they're soused in Lisbon's coastal waters. Buy Magina's Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five tape from Not Not Fun."

Gala Drop (Golfchannel) + Sunny Graves DJ (Jahbitat/Narwhal)+ Gonzo DJ (D.N.A. club) @ MOOG, Barcelona, 15th of June, 21:30h
We are very happy to announce that this June we will bring one of the best and renowned Portuguese bands to Barcelona: Gala Drop. Their show full of experimental electronics and guitars, creating amazing kraut-rock and psychadelic ambiances, will be supported by Sunny Graves (Jahbitat/Narwhal) who will present his latest creations and by Gonzo dj (D.N.A. club). The night will prepare you well for Sonár, which kicks off the day after.
The show will be in Moog and tickets will be just 6 euros.
Check out the info about Gala Drop, a band that made it into the Resident Advisor recommended list, the reference website for electronic music, with their last EP Overcoat Heat. Philip Sherburne introduced them as follows:
"Gala Drop are a four-piece from Lisbon, Portugal; after their self-titled, double-vinyl debut last year, they make their first appearance on New York's Golf Channel Recordings. Panda Bear recently invited them to open for him there, which isn't surprising; their music is imbued with the same psychedelic sensibility that you might find in Animal Collective, El Guincho, Delorean, John Talabot, Four Tet, or even James Holden."
To get a taste of it, here is a video for a song of their latest EP Overcoat Heat, Drop:
